We are MALAHIDE HISTORICAL TOURS, a new business dedicated to providing heritage walking tours of Malahide. Join our tours and have fun while learning about the 1,000 year old well which had eels to keep it clean, the perennial battles between the Malahide customs agents and the smugglers, the "dowry" terrace built to finance a wedding that never took place, the pub with a well and a piggery along with other tales and facts about old Malahide!

Tours will be both entertaining and informative for all ages and backgrounds, for local and international visitors.

 Owners Frank and Brian are Malahide locals, qualified in tour guiding and deeply experienced in Malahide's local history.

Malahide's seafaring history

Hear how there has been trading between Malahide and English ports since at least 1345 and how sea-fishing, boatbuilding and sailing activities later became important. Hear how Malahide oysters were much prized in Dublin of 18th and 19th centuries and how Malahide may have been the home of the original 'culchies'!.

Learn how Malahide became so popular for generations of city dwellers looking for a day (or longer) at the seaside, 'taking the waters' at the Victorian seabaths. And  how 18th century Malahide customs agents were locked in ongoing conflict with smugglers who ruled the Irish Sea.

Malahide has been inhabited since 6,000BC but it took a decision of Lord Talbot de Malahide, a director of the railway company, to demand the siting of a station there in 1840s to put it on the map. Many of the buildings that give Malahide its special charm and character date from that period, including St. James's Terrace and Carlisle Terrace.
